Description

Double depression is a complex mental health condition characterized by the coexistence of major depressive disorder (MDD) alongside persistent depressive disorder (PDD), also known as dysthymia. This unique combination intensifies the severity and duration of depressive symptoms, leading to prolonged periods of low mood, lack of interest or pleasure, and feelings of hopelessness. Individuals experiencing double depression often endure recurring episodes of acute depression interwoven with a chronic, low-grade depressive state. This layered manifestation presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment, requiring a comprehensive approach to address both acute and chronic aspects of depression simultaneously.
