Description

Laser engraving is a subtractive manufacturing procedure using a laser beam to create a desired object. The process applies to many applications because of the 'laser' tag, which most people confuse with other laser processes like etching, marking, etc.

First, what is laser etching? It is more like a laser engraving since it uses heat from a laser machine to melt a material, and then it expands, leading to a raised cavity. After that, it enhances the physical characteristics, such as the reflectivity of the material.

Secondly, what is laser marking? It is the user of lower laser power to make a marking on the material's surface. Here, there is no alteration of the material. It only discolors the material via oxidation, hence the marking.

Both processes use laser beams on different materials, though the difference between the three processes is the production of the markings.

In conclusion, laser engraving removes part of the material, laser etching alters the material's top layer, and laser marking creates an image of the material's surface without altering or removing part of the material.
