"Togetr4success” Empowered Parenting: Boosting School Engagement!"
Overview of Togetr4Success (TG4S-100) *Welcome to Togetr4Success The goal of Togetr4success is to decrease and eliminate barriers to parent involvement in your school. Each parent is unique and experiences barriers specific to their circumstance that may prevent their consistent involvement in your school.
1. The history of parent involvement in school:
A contemporary perspective (TG4S-103)
You will be able to answer the following questions: -Does parent involvement have positive effects on student achievement? If so, what type of involvement works best? -What are the results of parent involvement on other student outcomes, such as attitude, self-concept, classroom behavior, and attendance? -Is parent helpful involvement beyond the preschool and early elementary grades--in middle and high school? If so, what form should it take? -What is known about the uses of parent involvement in predominantly minority and lower-income communities? -What, if any, effects on children's schooling can be attributed to parent involvement in the governance of schools?
2. Understanding barriers to parent involvement in schools and how to reduce them (TG4S-105) Barriers to consistent and constructive parent involvement are both natural and, in many cases, logical.
In this course you will learn techniques that will enable you to reduce barriers to parent involvement and create opportunities for constructive parent involvement and student academic success.
3. Human behavior and motivation: A call to action (TG4S-107)
Theories of human behavior and motivation and how you can apply this theory to understand what can motivate parents to get involved in your school. Schools, teachers, and parents are frustrated with continued barriers to consistent involvement and, at times, perplexed with our collective inability to create novel solutions to big problems in a comprehensive way.
4. How to use “10-week challenge,” as an effective substitute for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Maximizing the opportunity to address concerns, set goals, and support student progress.
